I started college as a Commercial Art major but then changed to Fine Art as I realized I found graphic art fun but fine art emotional and moving. For that reason it took quite a while before I felt comfortable telling people that I paint, never mind showing my work to anyone. My work has now been shown in various local shows over the past few years. I have also created specific works on commission.
My Story
I’ve been painting for about 30 years. The closest official term I can put on my work is Abstract Expressionism. I paint in acrylics with textures made with plaster, gesso, string and gloss mediums. This variety sometimes puts me in the “mixed media” category as opposed to “paintings”. I use acrylics because I sometimes manipulate the application with water. Many of my canvases are built at home as I like to play with the sizes and shapes. The canvas itself is an element in some pieces because I will wrap or shred the fabric, incorporating the raw edges.
